 SLIDING VANE PUMPS

General Specification - Positive Displacement Rotary Pumps have proved their efficiency and reliability over half a century in many arduous industrial applications.

Pump units are based on experience gained over 70 years varied pumping operations. The Sliding vane pump is designed to give high output at low speeds with smooth pumping action, eliminating damage to pumped product - thus longer pump life and minimal maintenance downtime.

The list of products handled for guidance purposes includes:-

  • Glucose and Molasses
  • Milk and Dairy Cream
  • Crude and Lube Oils
  • Fuel and Light Oils
  • Bitumen and Tar
  • Sweetened Condensed Milk
  • Syrups and Chocolate
  • Paints and Varnishes
  • Enamels and Celluloses
  • Melted Wax and Fats
  • Edible Oils
  • Liquid Paraffin
  • Naphtha and L.P.G.
  • Cellulose Acetates, Liquid Yeast, Glues
  • Hexanes, Resins etc. etc.

Liquids of any viscosity are within the capability of this pump. The pump design features ensure maximum flexibility in combining pump elements and in the choice of materials resulting in tailor- made solutions to even the most difficult pumping problems. Standard construction materials include stainless steel, bronze, cast iron and mild steel. Pump unit materials comply with British, American, Continental and Hygienic standards where applicable.

The Principle of the Sliding Vane Pump

The Corniche range is a self priming positive displacement pump of simple rotary sliding vane design. Each revolution will discharge a fixed volume as illustrated.

As the rotor turns, the fluid is moved from the suction port to the discharge by the vanes which slide within the rotor. The forces acting on the vanes are:

  1. Hydraulic pressure behind the vanes
  2. Centrifugal force
  3. Idler rings located within the rotor

High Efficiency Self Adjusting Vanes

The Sliding vane Corniche pump maintains high volumetric efficiency throughout service. Internal pump slip is reduced to a minimum, for as the vanes wear, they simply move further out of the slots, maintaining the same fine clearance against the body. Therefore suction and discharge capacity of the pump is unimpaired even after arduous service.

Self Centring Relieving Grooves Hydraulically Maintain Pump Performance

When the rotor turns, the vane is pushed out of its slot, the fluid passes through the relieving groove to fill the cavity behind the vane. When the vane returns, the fluid whilst escaping from this cavity to the discharge exerts pressure on the back edge of the vane, thus ensuring the fine seal between body and vane.
